This simply was one of the wackiest games I've ever seen. In a rematch of Game #2 the Chippewae sent Darryl Kile out against Todd Stottlemyre. Stottlemyre struggles immediately giving up hits to Hamilton and Cora to start the game before enticing Gary Sheffield into a double play and Edgar to fly out to left, escaping with no damage done. With two out in the second back to back singles from Benny Santiago (without a hit since his 2HRs in Game 1) and Will Clark put runners on the corners for Shane Andrews (hitless in 11 ABs thus far) who with one swing of the bat puts the visitors ahead 3-0. Bottom of the second, Kile walks Jeff King and Warren Newson before striking out the useless Pedro Munoz. Orlando Miller then lets a Joe Oliver grounder go through his legs... E6 and the bases are loaded for the Crackers with Mickey Tettleton at the plate. Kile walks him, a run comes in to make it 3-1. Rickey Henderson then slaps one to Clark that he can't handle. Another error and the Crackers get within one. John Valentin, in the two spot for the first time in the series, then walks sending Oliver hobbling home. Alomar grounds into a double play to end the inning. After two innings, Kile's got a no-hitter but finds himself in a 3-3 tie. Oliver breaks up the no-no with one out in the fourth but there's nothing really doing until the sixth. Munoz strikes out for the third time, Oliver walks and the number nine hitter Tettleton (who hit all of .198 in the regular season) singles sending him to third. Henderson then drives Oliver home with a single making it 4-3. Valentin strikes out and the wild Kile walks Alomar to load the bases for Chili "Speed Demon" Davis. Kile then uncorks back to back wild pitches scoring Mickey and Rickey and it's suddenly 6-3 Cabbagetown. A less-Mitchesque Mike Bielecki comes in from the pen and gets Davis to fly out to end the inning. The line on Kile 5 2/3 IP, 3 hits, 6 runs, 3 earned, 8 walks, 6 Ks and 2 wild pitches. Ouch. Tettleton reverts to his normal shitty self and starts of the seventh by making his second error in three innings on balls hit by Daryl Hamilton. Cora then singles sending him to third, ending Stottlemyre's day. T.J. Mathews fans Sheffield for the first out, but the red-hot Edgar Martinez drives in his ninth run of the series with a fly-out to right putting Boston within two. Mathews pitches around Belle, walking him on four pitches. With the tying run at 1b the struggling Santiago forces Albert out at 2b to end the inning. 6-4 Cabbagetown. Moments later, Jeff King answers with a homer off Bielecki in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-4... the end appears near. So in comes ace Robb Nen in the ninth with a three-run lead, looking to clinch the series, ready to face the top of the Chippewae order. Hamilton gets on base for the fifth time of the day with a single and 3Com grows quieter. Joey Cora then hits into a 6-4-3 double play killing the rally. But with one out left MVP-candidate Gary Sheffield swats a home-run to make it 7-5 with Edgar and Albert due up. But Nen would not be denied fanning Martinez to end the game and the series. That was it. Stottlemyre wins his second game, Kile gets the loss.
